New Year’s Sewing Resolutions

Can you believe we’re at the start of another year? A new year is a fresh start, a clean slate – and you know what that means — time for some sewing resolutions! Let’s talk about some practical and fun goals to kick off your New Year and your sewing adventures in style.

Start the Year with a Clean Slate

First things first, let’s hit the reset button for your sewing space. Take a moment to declutter your sewing area – put away those piles from last year’s projects, organize your threads, and go through fabric scraps. Trust us; a tidy sewing space is a creative sewing space.

Channel your inner Marie Kondo in for your sewing room. If those old patterns or fabric scraps don’t spark joy, thank them for their service and bid them farewell. Make room for the exciting new projects that you have your eye on from Two Chicks Quilting. Fresh year, fresh projects!

Show Your Machine Some Love

Our trusty sewing machines have been with us through thick and thin, stitching up beautiful quilts and turning fabric into magic. But when was the last time you gave your machine a little TLC? It’s time for a spa day – for your sewing machine, that is.

Grab your machine’s manual (if you can find it; no judgment here) and give it a good read, and check out our post on the Art of Sewing Machine Maintenance for extra tips. Follow your machine manual’s instructions for cleaning and oiling. Trust me, your machine will thank you with smoother stitches and fewer tantrums. A clean machine is a happy machine, and a happy machine means smooth sewing sessions.

If it has been more than one year since you have had your machine in to see a certified technician you may want to get that scheduled.  Two Chicks recommends you have our technician, Billy, clean and service your machine annually so this is a great time of the year to get in the habit of doing that.

Organize Your Works in Progress

This year, let’s make a pact to tackle those UFOs head-on. Pull them out, dust them off, and assess the situation. Can you salvage that half-finished quilt top or repurpose that abandoned project? Consider creating a designated space out in the open for your works in progress. Whether it’s a cute basket or a dedicated drawer, having them in plain sight can serve as a constant reminder to finish what you started.  Start gathering these UFOs because Two Chicks will be announcing a fun UFO Challenge coming in January!

Set Personal Sewing Goals

Have you set your New Year’s Sewing Resolutions? What skills do you want to master? We may already have a class on the calendar to help you learn! Are you itching to try your hand at longarm quilting, tackle a challenging pattern, or dive into the world of machine embroidery? Whatever it is, make it personal, make it fun, and make it about you and your sewing adventure.

Here’s to a year filled with stitches, smiles, and the joy of your creative journey. Happy sewing!
